My second pair of budgies is on a nest of 4 eggs. It should have been seven eggs, but the first egg was laid ouside on a perch and fell to the bottom of the cage and broke. The second was laid in the next box but was thrown out and the third was also laid in the box as well but just went missing. I couldn't find a shell or anything so I guess one of the others ate it. In my third pair they have been working the nestbox for sometime as well, and her cere is turning brown, This will be her first clutch of eggs. This is the second clutch for the second pair and she had 7 eggs in that clutch as well, one became dented and I guess she ate it as it went missing and all the others hatched, Only the 6th egg didn't make 10 hours. I left to go to school and it was hatching. When I came home it was dead in the bottom of the box. I think it was stepped on, after all with 5 other chicks, plus mom and dad in the box, that's a lot of feet for a hatchling to watch out for and I guess it couldn't avoid them.

I didn't know that budgies laid that many eggs in one nest. I always thought they were like pigeons and only laid one or two eggs.

Sometimes they will have 10 eggs and that's it. Right now she has 7 eggs under her. She had the 3 that broke and 4 more that she still has that she started sitting on, which is why I think they made it. Then 5 days when by and I had another egg and I keep getting eggs. So now she's on 7 eggs. The other hen was laying eggs in her nestbox. Even though she has a nestbox of her own, which is why I think the 2 eggs that were laid in the nest were tossed out. So now I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up handfeeding the older 4 because by the time the 5th egg hatches the oldest will be at least a week which means by the time the youngest hatches the oldest will be 2-3 weeks old and I'm afraid the younger ones wont get food and will die. The first egg should be hatching in 4 days. I don't know how many eggs this other hen will have as this is her first clutch ever, I got her when she was really young and she's finally of age wher I feel she would do fine breeding, and she is, only she should have used the other nest.

Now a budgie is what in the petshops they would call a parakeet, right? If so, how in the world do they cover all the eggs to keep them warm with their samll bodies? My male parakeet was so small

Yes a budgie is what the pet stores have basically renamed the parakeet. See all parakeet means is long tail. So I could call a cockatiel and a macaw a parakeet, because they have long tails, But I couldn't call an african grey a parakeet because it has a short tail. Also there are 2 kinds of budgies. One is the American or pet budgie and the other is the English or show budgie. The English are 2-4 times the size of a American depending on the stock. My female who is sitting on the eggs is half English so she's bigger then the ones you find in the pet store. So she's able to cover more eggs. Although I think she's about at her limit now. The other hen who is laying in her nest is full american and this being her first clutch of eggs I don't think she'll be laying m any more. As it is with the number of chicks and the 5 day gap I'm going to end up handfeeding the older 4 chicks if I want to have better chances of keeping them all alive.

Here's a little update....
My budgie ended up sitting on 9 eggs, 4 of her how and 5 from the other hen. 2 of them have hatched so far. They are so cute. I was going to get pictures today, but it's been raining out all day so I didn't go out and get pics.

Another update:
6 of the eggs hatched, I just took out the other 3 eggs and cracked them open and they weren't even fertile. So far I have one yellow and green, one blue, and two yellow, green, and blues. The other two I can't tell what colors they are going to be yet because the pin feathers haven't come in yet. I can't really guess either because they are from the second pair and they've never had babies with me and I don't know what colors they have in them. But the cock is white and they can toss anything.

Yep. I will have 4 out of the older 5 with my at fraziers to try and sell. If they don't sell there I'm taking them with me to scatacoke in oct 2nd if if I still have them I'm taking them to my pigeon clubs show, my mom is going to have a vendors booth for our store so I'm gonna put them up with her. I wont be able to deal with them because I'll be busey putting up my birds for the show, cleaning them, and then I will end up stwearting birds for a judge.
