[glow=red,2,300][/glow] My female parakeet passed away and my male is not exactly mourning her, but has this toy that he stays by all day long and even regurges on this toy. It is like the toy is his mate now. He is eating and drinking and doesn't look sad, but how do I really know? Should I get him another female? The same coloring? Or should I just let him be? Thanks. That's exactly what's going on. Your parakeet thinks this toy is it's mate. You could remove the toy to stop this as when the food gets caked on it will start to grow deadly bacteria. You could also get another bird, but I'd get another male. If you don't plan on breeding as even without a nestbox they will lay eggs and they can have a lot of problems when laying eggs such as eggbinding which will cause the death of the female if you don't get her to a vet.

I think that you should get another bird for ur maleā¦take away the toy so he can let it be by gones as long as he is eating I think he should be fine but keep an eye on him. I hope this helps
